Antarctica
Rich Task
Background Information
For the last six months you have been part of a
science research team investigating the effects of global
warming on the Antarctic continent and the surrounding ice
shelves. Recently, about 5 500 square kilometres of ice broke
away from the continent.
Task
1. Investigate and then explain the reasons why the
ice broke away.
2. Develop a ten point Earth action plan to prevent
the further disintegration of the ice surrounding and on the
Antarctic continent. Include:
·
A map/graphic showing the changes to the continent
over approximately the last ten years.
·
An explanation of global warming and its effects on
human and animal life.
·
A diagram explaining global warming.
·
10 point action plan.
·
A slogan or bumper sticker highlighting the problem.

Learning Process & Self Evaluation: |
Steps
we went through to create this presentation: |
- Research
information on the Internet.
- Workout who is
doing what and what they are saying.
- Rehearsing the
play.
- Workout which
costumes to wear.
- Make backdrops.
- Video the play.
|
I
have learnt: |
- New
information about Antarctica
- Different ways
of communicating with the people in my group.
- That acting
in front of the camera was much easier than I had
expected.
- Different ways of using my voice.
|
My
group is good at: |
- Helping
each other by correcting each other and
showing how to act better.
|
My
group needs to work more on: |
- Not fighting
with the other group members.

Comment: I
have found this task the best out of all of the
tasks so far. Videoing our first group play was
exciting. The group helped each other do different
voices and overcoming the fright of
acting in front of a camera. I hope we have the
opportunity of having a task like this again!

Comment:
It is obvious that you have all
spent a lot of time researching, planning and
rehearsing your play. You all worked well as
a group and presented a lot of information in a
fun and interesting way. It was enjoyable to
watch!
