Sinking Sailing Soaring

Rich Task

Background Information

It is the year 2025 and you are employed at one of the world’s most innovative centres for scientific research/development.  Your company is known all over the world for its inventions.

Problem

In the last twenty years, the world’s population has grown at an alarming rate and as a result, the transportation of people has become a major problem.  Both air and water pollution levels have also increased and unless a solution for these two problems can be found, the people of the world face a bleak future.

An international conference has been set up to try to find a solution to these problems.  Your company has been invited to present at the conference, a transportation design that will move large numbers of people and reduce pollution.  Your design therefore must be both an efficient people mover and environmentally friendly.  A prize of $ 10 000 000 will be awarded for the most efficient design.

Required elements

You need to present:

  • A brief history outlining the development of the form of air/water craft that you have used as your base design (e.g. a timeline could be used).

  • The design and a replica model of your invention.

  • An explanation of how your form of transport works.

  • A name and logo for your company based on an acronym, eg. SOAP – Scientists Outlawing Air Pollution.
